BAFTA Award-winning actress Vicky McClure swapped the red carpet for the Children 1st Medal Winners podium yesterday as she welcomed the Children 1st Torch over the finish line at Children 1st @ Toton!
Over 2000 of our children took part in a torch relay to celebrate the Olympic Games. The torch started in Sheffield at 8.15am where Sheffield Shark Zach Gachette, our torch-bearer Arthur and his envoys started our 230 mile journey across 6 counties, travelling to every single one of the Children 1st nurseries.
The torch was welcomed back to Children 1st @ Toton where the children lined the street and cheered as our torchbearer Kai sprinted to the finish line. Vicky then joined in the ceremonial 'lighting' of the cauldron before enjoying a party with all of the children from Children 1st @ Toton and their parents, supported by our friendly local Community Support Officer, Sean Davison.
This epic journey was the icing on the cake for the award-winning Children 1st group of nurseries, who this year have celebrated not only the Queen's Diamond Jubilee and the Olympic Games, but also 9 consecutive Outstanding Ofsted inspections, bringing their total outstanding day care and early years settings to eleven out of fifteen, a gold-medal winning performance!
Children 1st @ Breedon House is a family-run group of nurseries, first established in 1988 by Margaret Mason and her family. Our nurseries uphold the three Olympic values of Friendship, Excellence and Respect, so the Torch Relay was the perfect way to celebrate our amazing achievements.
Well done to everyone who took part in our Torch Relay, we are so proud of you! And a big thank you to Vicky McClure and CSO Sean Davison who helped make our day even more special.
