Illness & Emergency

*

It is our policy at Children 1st @ Breedon House to encourage and promote good health and hygiene for all the children in our care. This includes monitoring the children for signs and symptoms of communicable diseases such as chicken pox, measles, mumps, rubella, meningitis, hepatitis, diarrhoea, vomiting and fevers of 101F/38C or over.

With the welfare of the sick child in mind and in the interests of the remaining children in our Centres, if in the opinion of Management a child is ill, the parent/carer will be contacted and requested to collect his/her child as soon as possible.

The staff at Children 1st must be convinced that the child has returned to good health before re-admitting him/her to our Centres.

In the case of a serious accident or illness occurring then the parent/carer will be contacted immediately along with the medical profession and the appropriate action will be taken. In the unlikely event of the parent not being available, the senior staff member on duty will assume charge and, if necessary, take the child to hospital along with all the relevant details. As advised on admission, we shall cherish and care for your child with complete dedication, their interests and yours being paramount.

In the event of any child not being well, the following policy is adopted.

Under 12 Months

With any unexplained temperatures, a fretting or unhappy child, parents will be notified and asked for their immediate support in collecting the child from the Centre. This will never be done without necessity and only after Management approval.

Any Age Group

Any child with sickness or diarrhoea will not be accepted in the Centre until clear of these symptoms. Your support and help to this end is valued.

Eye Infections – Conjunctivitis

If it is suspected that your child may have an eye infection, PLEASE NOTE that until medication from the Doctor is prescribed, your child will not be accepted into the Centre.

Other Infections / Infectious Diseases

We welcome immediate notification so that the appropriate action may be taken to protect others.

Minor Ailments – coughs and sneezes.

As long as your child is well and not feverish, he/she may attend our Centres.

In the event of your child not being well in the centre, the following strategy is adopted:

A sleep, drink, Calpol – with prior approval by parents – is administered. If your child is distressed or in any pain, you will be advised and asked to collect. We may also ring, if considered appropriate, to advise you that a doctor’s appointment may be necessary.

All the above will only be done if it is considered necessary and appropriate after Management consultation. We are always grateful for a telephone call to let us know if your child is sick and will not be attending the Centre. Your support will be required.

All senior personnel and most other staff hold appropriate First Aid qualifications.
